Car and Van Servicing

We at Car Tech offer some very affordable car or van service options that are completed by our fully trained and experienced technicians.

Servicing is important to keep your vehicle in the best shape possible, save you from expensive repair bills, and save you cash in the long run. Most manufacturers recommend having a full vehicle service once a year or every 12,000 miles, whichever comes first.
We at Car Tech recommend a yearly service that will alternate between a full service and an interim service.

We also offer a minor service that replaces your oil and filter and includes a tyre and brake check. Ideal if you want a check over prior to a long journey or if you have just purchased the vehicle.

Full Service

Our Full Service, also known as a Major service is ideal as an annual maintenance program for your vehicle. We recommend your car or van receives a Full Service every other year as a minimum. For example, one year will have an interim service and the following year will have a full service.

A Full Service will reduce the risk of breakdown and can help maintain the value of the vehicle. For complete peace of mind, a full service can be completed every year but is not recommended unless you complete over 20,000 miles a year.

Our Full Service includes all items included in the Interim Service package plus a thorough inspection of your engine and a full brake inspection. A major vehicle service also includes an air filter and extensive checks of items under the bonnet including brake, fuel and radiator pipes and hoses, power steering fluid and auxiliary drive belt adjustments (if required).

If you have a diesel vehicle it may be worth also changing the fuel filter in addition to this service.

Interim Service

We recommend having an Interim Service every 10,000 miles or 12 months (whichever is sooner) to keep your vehicle safe and roadworthy between full services. We recommend alternating one-year interim service and the following year a full service.

An Interim vehicle service at Car Tech includes checks on everyday essentials such as lights, instruments, and fluid levels, plus a full tyre & suspension inspection. A visual brake inspection is also included.

Minor service (oil change)

A minor service is the smallest service we do, effectively it is an oil change. This is recommended if you are worried about the condition of your oil in between services or if you have a vehicle, you don’t use much but still want to keep up with the service history and stamps in the book.

The oil change process typically involves

  • Draining the old oil: The technician locates the drain plug under the engine and drains the old oil into a collection pan.
  • Replacing the oil filter: The oil filter traps contaminants removed from the oil. It’s replaced with a new filter to ensure clean oil circulation.
  • Adding fresh oil: New oil is added to the engine based on the manufacturer’s specifications. The grade of oil can vary depending on the Make and model of your vehicle.
  • Checking fluid levels: Other essential fluids like coolant and brake fluid are checked and topped up if necessary.
  • Resetting the oil change reminder: Most modern vehicles have an oil change reminder light. The technician resets it, so it prompts you for the next change based on the recommended interval.

As this is an oil change service only the basic items are checked to make sure the vehicle is of Roadworthiness.

While a service is not the same as an MOT (which checks roadworthiness), the Road Traffic Act 1988 makes it illegal to drive an unroadworthy vehicle.

Therefore, any responsible garage should perform checks that ensure the vehicle meets basic safety standards and is not a danger on the road. This could include inspecting brakes, steering, lights, and tyres for any obvious issues that could lead to failure.

Video Health checks

Even though Car Tech is a family-run workshop we are focused on our customers experience and journey with us. We offer a free video health check that will detail any defects with your vehicle. It will also show you items to ‘keep an eye on’ also known as advisories.

Vehicle video health checks are a relatively new way for garages to provide additional transparency and convenience to their customers. Here’s how it works:

  • Visual inspection: Showing the condition of parts like brakes, tyres, suspension, filters, etc.
  • Fluid levels: Checking brake fluid, coolant, engine oil, etc.
  • Identified issues: Pointing out any problems discovered and explaining their severity.
  • Sharing the video: Once the service is complete, the technician sends you a link to the video via email or text message.
  • Reviewing the video: You can watch the video at your own convenience to understand the service performed and any recommended repairs.
  • Decision-making: You can make informed decisions about approving repairs based on the visual evidence and explanations provided.

  • Transparency: Video provides a visual understanding of the service and any issues found, building trust and credibility.
  • Convenience: You can review the video without visiting the garage, saving time and effort.
  • Informed decision-making: Allows you to clearly see the issues and ask questions before authorising repairs.
  • Peace of mind: Helps you understand the health of your vehicle and feel confident about the service performed.
